AIR ACCESS - NELSON MANDELA BAY AIRLIFT

The Nelson Mandela Bay Airlift project was formed in July 2018 by the NMBM, ACSA, NMBBC and the ECDC, to facilitate seamless flow of trade and tourism between Nelson Mandela Bay, as well as national and regional destinations.

It is to this end that the Airlift’s main mandate is to pursue potential aerial route opportunities with prospective airline partners in order to link the city and enhance regional as well as global competitiveness.

Currently the NMB Airlift committee is made up of representatives from the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Economic Development, Tourism and Agriculture directorate, Airports Company of South Africa, Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber, Eastern Cape Development Corporation, and the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency.

The overall objectives of the Nelson Mandela Bay Airlift Project is to;

  • Develop – Development of new routes to the city utilising new and existing airlines.
  • Maintain – Maintaining existing routes and airlines, monitoring their performance and engaging in regular contact with airlines.
  • Promote – Ensuring tourism growth through an increase in demand for flights, improved schedules and deployment of larger aircraft
  • Product Development – Product Development that will increase demand for passenger seats and enhance customer services, spend and experience within the destination.

In order to establish new routes to the city there are two forms of assistance offered by the municipality.

  • Investment Incentives as per the council approved investment incentive policy
  • Marketing Support for route establishment and expansion
